Samsung’s Ace and Jack Smartphone

The Samsung Blackjack is one of the most notable releases of Samsung. The smartphone is most suitable for individuals looking for a feature-pack gadget on a budget at approximately $200 to $250 dollars. The phone is one of the most affordable in market today that runs on Windows Mobile operating system and connecting to the high-speed HSDPA network.

The dimension of 4.5 x 2.3 x 0.5 inches seems to be smaller than industry standard for any smartphone. The polished look is appealing and savvy giving users a good grip on the phone despite being a tiny phone than usual. It has a sleek design sporting a thumbwheel over at the right edge for thorough scrolling of menus and web functionality juxtapose the back and clear key. It is also on this edgy side that you can find the microSD slot card that supplements the 64MB built-in RAM.

The left edge houses the volume and USB port. The USB port may also be used for stereo headsets but by using a bluetooth headset you can listen to stereo music wirelessly. Over at the back are the camera lens and the speaker.

Pros

  • Good messaging feature supporting Cingular Xpress Mail which means compatibility with Yahoo, Comcast, Good Mobile and MS Direct Push. Attaching can also be viewed with the built-in Picsel Viewer and it supports instant messaging too.
  • Good multimedia perks allowing Cingular Video and Music coverage. That means you can stream movies from HBO or even watch live sports coverage over ESPN or watch the latest news update with CNN. The music coverage allows you to stream 25 channels of XM radio and is PlayForSure compatible.
  • It can play Java-based games, which are unusual for a Windows Mobile 5 phones and allow the RSS reader application for it to feed latest updates directly to your phone.
  • Several handy shortcuts are very useful and save a lot of time such as pressing FN + B allows you to turn on and off the bluetooth.

Cons

  • Although the general connectivity of phone is good it lacks access to Wi-Fi. During the release, Cingular’s HSDPA network was still rolled out and it probably has improved a bit in the present.
  • The phone lacks an office suite, unlike other Windows Mobile compatible phone. It only merely allows you to view documents but not edit it. And the bad thing, a zoom is needed for you to be able to see the opened document in naked eyes.
  • In terms of design and key placement, the four way joystick is placed too closed with the send and end key which sometimes results in erroneously pressing keys. The bump on the top rear can also causes annoyance.

In general, the phone is well designed, and the flaws are very limited. The overall quality of voice and battery life was good. This is definitely one of the favorite value-priced gadget!
