The Helio Ocean 2 (see CNET Review) has been a long time coming, but it’s here. The second version of the Helio Ocean (a groundbreaking Mobile Phone in its own right), takes something good and makes it even better. If you don’t remember the original Helio Ocean Mobile Phone, it might be because it came out in 2007, along with the iPhone by Apple. It was a slick phone two-years ago, and a second generation version of the Mobile Phone has been awaited by a lot of people for a while now. The wait is over, though.
The Helio Ocean 2 maintains the original phone’s dual-slider design. That is, you can slide it down if you’re just dialing a number (and it acts as a keypad) or you can slide it the other direction and get a full QWERTY keyboard. It’s a great unique design for people from light text message users to heavy text message users.
The Mobile Phone is a little on the bulky side. Ok, it’s really rather bulky. At over 5.5 ounces, there’s no denying it. On the other hand, it’s not such a bad thing with a cool feature like a dual-slider. The space is put to good use, though. The Ocean 2 has 2GB of memory on the phone, with the ability to add more.
What’s really cool is that this is a very feature rich phone, but it doesn’t carry a feature rich price. That is, it’s considerably less than a lot of the other flashy touch screen Mobile Phones coming out recently. Don’t let the lack of a touch screen fool you, though. This phone can do things most smartphones do, plus some.
The display is a 2.6 inch QVGA with 240×320 pixel resolution. Like the iPhone, the screen changes from portrait to landscape mode when you turn the phone. That’s really cool.
