Web Browsers for Your Mobile Phone
While a lot of mobile phones that offer web access come with some method to browse the web, some big names and newcomers are getting into the market, offering web browsers of their own. SkyFire for the Symbian and Windows Mobile phones and Firefox Mobile (codename Fennec) are two leaders you should be watching if you find yourself spending a lot of time on the web via your mobile phone.
Firefox Mobile (according to some reviews) isn't ready for primetime, but there's a lot of support around bringing the popular web browser to the world of mobile phones. Mozilla is releasing an iPhone version for touchscreens and also another version for mobile phones without a touchscreen.
In the mobile phone web browser market, SkyFire is getting a lot better reviews around the Internet. They recently released a version that incorporates RSS feeds into a redesigned home screen and also improved support for sites with MP3 audio files and video as well. If you're on Windows Mobile, you'll want to check SkyFire out.
Another current leader in the mobile phone web browser area is Opera Mobile. Already installed on millions of mobile phones around the world, Opera's mobile web browser is feature rich and has most of the bugs associated with browing the web on a cellphone worked out. There's still room for improvement, but that's a good thing.
Web browsers have a long way to go before someone gets it 'just right' on the mobile phone platform, but until then, innovation keeps happening. It's an exciting time to be alive and own a mobile phone with so many new things opening up each and every year.
