The Casio Exilim C721 for the Verizon Wireless network (see CNET Review or this Engadget post) is a tough Mobile Phone that’s sleek (unlike Casio’s other North American offerings in the past that were kinda bulky), but it comes with a hefty pricetag of around $250.
And when I say this phone is tough, I mean it will meet Military Specifications for Water (Immersion & Rain), Humidity, Salt–Fog, Shock, Vibration, Dust, Solar Radiation, Altitude, and more. And, as you can see by the photo, it kinda looks like a camera too! The digital camera is actually 5.1-megapixel and has a flash, which means you’ll get great looking photos – even better than some “real” cameras. It’s phones like this that are really blurring the lines.
Casio Exilim C721 Quick Stats:
- Dimensions: 4″ x 2″ x 0.80″
- Weight: 4.50 oz
- Screen: 2.3″ TFT LCD with 240 x 320 pixel resolution
- Second Screen: 32 x 96 pixels (black and white)
- Camera: 5.1-megapixel (with Flash)
The phone is pricey, but if you’re looking for something that looks good AND will stand up to the elements, you’re going to end up paying for it. For some people, it’s going to be worth it, especially if they drop their phone a lot or find themselves in extreme situations.
The great thing about this Mobile Phone is that it doesn’t LOOK like it can handle the damage, but it can. A lot of rugged phones look rugged too, and this can be a turn-off for some people. This Mobile Phone may change all that, raising the bar for hardened Mobile Phones everywhere.
If you have the Casio Ecilim C721 (or an older Casio Mobile Phone), leave a comment below and let us know what you think. There are a lot of opinions out there, but we want to hear yours. We really, really do. Smile.
Until next time, remember to get the toughest phone possible if you live a hard and fulfilling life.
