All things considered, there are worse things than being just another smartphone on the market right now, which is exactly how I would describe the HTC Pure from AT&T. While there’s nothing hugely objectionable about the model, there’s nothing in particular to be impressed with, either. At the price it’s offered, it’s just a sort of half-hearted attempt to introduce a multimedia friendly smartphone to compete with the iPhone.

The appearance of the phone falls right in line with its features in seeming ordinary and uninteresting. With a sort of plastic feel and average size, there’s nothing to impress, but nothing to hate. The display is bright and clear, which is nice to see. The resistive touch screen seems like a bit of a strange choice for a smartphone that is completely dependant on the screen for all its functions, but its not a deal breaker.

The Pure comes with Windows Mobile 6.5 and HTC TouchFlo. Windows Mobile is improved quite a bit here, though it’s still yards behind the iPhone in terms of cutting edge tech. The complete wireless support allows you to smoothly run plenty of apps for the Pure over AT&T 3G network. Other features include AT&T Navigator, a GPS system with turn-by-turn voice guided direction as well as a newly upgraded 5 MP camera that takes fairly good pictures.

The HTC Pure ultimately fails in making any of its details standout from the crowd of smartphones flooding the market. What’s more, with a few serious oversights, like the lack of a headphone jack in a phone that offers multimedia features, it becomes a substandard choice for a lot of the functions that it was supposedly designed for.
